Week Five

Can anyone believe that we are in our last week of class? I want to thank everyone for all of the hard work I have witnessed throughout the last few weeks. I know that the work has been long and the assignments have been numerous, but y'all have done a great job.

I’ll grade all assignments by July 7th except the last few ones. Ensure you check your grades to find out if you have received credit for all of your assignments!! Let me know of any gaps.

I'd like to cancel the EdTechProfie post-test. You do NOT need to do it again (unless you want to see how much you have learned).

For Monday: Come and grab a camcorder and film your story between 12 and 2. Make sure you bring all that is needed for filming. Come back to UH 271 once you finish the filming. Download the video footage (you need to take turns) and start editing your master pieces. If you forget a particular skill, check out an iMovie tutorial at the class WebCT, in Course Content > Tutorials. You can bring a headset.

Please update your tracking sheet.

For Wednesday: We will continue working on the video project. Then we will submit key artifacts to Taskstream and provide evidence for meeting (most parts of) TPE 14.

For Monday, July 6: If we finish everything on Wednesday, this can be an optional class. For those who have finished everything, you don’t necessarily need to come. For others, please come for the last minute help.

Journal 7 & 8: You may search L&L, T.H.E. Journal or any other appropriate site to find and read two articles on something that relates to technology and education.

Remember that July 10th is the absolute due date for everything.

You should receive an e-mail invitation to do course evaluation online. Please do so and give feedback for improving this course. I appreciate your comments.

This week's question: What was your favorite assignment in this class and why?

  2. I liked all of the assignments. The only regret is the class was so fast.

The assignments I feel that will support me in the organization of the classroom was the Excel spreadsheet. The excel assignment will help me in the management of the classroom. Any help I can get in that department is welcomed with open arms.
Bookmarkings is another of my favorite assignments because of the ability to access valuable support tools from anywhere.

But the most creative was the newsletter assignment, I liked this assignment. It is a wonderful way to include students and parents in the learning process. I can see this as a reward to students. They all like to see their names in prnt. They can be the big event for the week.
My least favorite was the Wiki assignment. It took way too much time and was really hard to format and to blend everyones styles.

But all-in-all, the assignments were all beneficial in some way to the classroom and to me as a future teacher. I also likes the readings they were very enlightening. I understand , but not quite grasp all the applications of web technology now.
    Thank You!

  3. All asignments are beneficial for use in the classroom setting. I am greatly looking forward to the video assignment. I have found that the editing of videos, and creating of narratives is a new hobby of mine. I have only created four films as of yet but I get better with the program each time that I use it. I enjoy manipulating scripts to create my own interpretations of an occurence (sounds like what historians do)!

  4. I have seen that it is definately possible to use a significant amount of technology in the classroom. I did not think that technology would come into play as much as it can, and I wasn't necessarily motivated to find out how. Now there are several things that I will definately be using in the classroom. I would like to do a class blog with my students and also stay connected with my parents through a class website or something like that. I think that technology can definately benefit students and it is another way to relate to this generation of children.

  5. While I feel this class had provided me with many useful tools, I enjoyed creating the graphic organizer with Inspiration most of all. Being a more tactile artist, I really did not think I would feel very satisfied with computer generated creativity; however, I was pleasantly suprised! I can see myself using this in the classroom not only as a lecturing tool, but also as an assignment the students would produce. The flexibility of the program allows it to be applied in many ways. While it is wonderful for creating a visual relationshipdiagram, it could also be adjusted to createw a causal map. It applies to all of the NETS-S standards which is a bonus!

  6. So far I've really enjoyed the video assignment. It allows us to work as a group to come up with creative ideas and then to work on our own to create our own versions from the footage we shot together. Also there isn't much difference between the Mac and PC for the other projects and this is the first one where I can see a true difference between the Mac and PC.

  7. My favorite assignment in this class was the inspiration assignment. I didn't even know about this program. It was really cool to work with and easy to use. The graphics were fun and would be great and entertaining to use in the classroom. I will definitely use this program again and I'm happy I learned about it.

  8. Without any hesitation my favorite assignment has been the weekly articles and blog posting. Although technically I have learned considerable skills through preparing the other assignments I have learned more through the blog read and post assignments. I will confess that I was most comfortable performing in this area but I believe I learned more and it was the most interesting. Fun and interesting are favorites in my book. `I am also convinced that given the resources to use a blog in my classes I will not only post information in a blog form but attempt to use it for assignment purposes.

  9. I think that my favorite assignment so far is going to be the video. This is an assignment that we get to work on in groups, but then we get to do individually to put our own spins on it. I am excited to work on an finish the video project. Even though the video was my favorite, I think that all of the projects are going to be helpful tools for the classroom.

  10. I have learned greatly from all of the assignments. I can not think of one that was my favorite, but I few that I really enjoyed, and will probably continue using are the Blog, Delicious bookmarks, Inspiration, and imovie. I also enjoyed most of the articles, such as "Can you hear me Now!" The class went by too fast, and for some of the projects I wish we would have more time to explore all the tools available on the software.

  11. In Education 422 I have gained tons of useful information. The many task I have completed have helped me gain better knowlege to new technology. The most favorite assignment I did would have to be the spreadsheet. I was a little afraid of this task, but in the end I enjoyed it. It did help me become familiar with this program and all of its many uses. I believe this was great task for me. I hope that I can become better at spreadsheet, and make it a useful tool in the future.

  12. I loved making the video. It seems that we had to take most of the things we learned in this class and put it all together in one place. I had a great time getting to know my classmates and writing the script. It was fun putting it all together and seeing the results.

  13. I have enjoyed many of the assignments in this class. My favorite so far has been the Inspiration project and the spreadsheet project, the two for different reasons all together. The Inspiration project was fun because I did not know anything about the program and it really lends one to be very creative and has many options and tools to enhance the visual learning of students. The spreadsheet was enjoyable because I was not aware of how to format a spreadsheet let alone use graphs with the program. This class has been very informative and I have been introduced to many new programs, techniques and applications in technology that I am confident will enhance my teaching in the classroom.

  14. So far, I liked doing the Powerpoint and Inspiration project the most because we were able to be creative with the topic we chose. I am looking forward to working on the video for the same reason - it will be fun to incorporate different creative aspects to the same assignment (film, music and pictures). Overall, this class has been fun and interesting.

  15. My favorite class assignment was the Inspiration project. I think that I will definitely be able to use this tool in my classroom. I was able to be creative and demonstrate the different components of essay writing. I think that I can use this software to break down many different concepts not just the one I did for my project. This is also a very user friendly tool and students would be capable of creating their own projects.

  16. I would say my favorite project so far has definitely been the video project including the practice portion. First of all it was a lot of fun doing the filming but also working on the video in imovie was quite interesting. The process is really creative and there was a lot of different things we could do. I had never worked on a film like that before so it was really interesting to learn something new like that. I think the freedom of the assignment is what made it most interesting to me.

  17. My favorite project was learning how to use iMovie.
My son and I were talking about a fun project idea to film together this summer and now I have a basic background how to work on it. It is amazing how quickly you can put together a short lesson for students. I enjoyed learning how to make a movie and will use this to make fun, creative lessons for my students when I teach.

  18. Surprisingly my favorite project in this class has been iMovie! When I first found out we had to make a movie, I was not thrilled. I was thinking gosh that is going to be a lot of work and when would we ever have time to make a video for our students once we are teachers and working. But actually I really enjoyed the project! In the future if the school I teach in has the available resources to put together a group video collaboration, I will definitely have my students make a movie! I found it to be real fun and educational. I’m real glad we had this assignment, its amazing we were are able to put these movies together so quickly.

  20. I think I really liked the PowerPoint presentation and the Kidspiration project the best. While I was putting these projects together, I felt really excited to add pictures and words to information I already knew. It made me really happy to be able to convey that information in a way that is fun for children, and I tried hard to think of ways that the children would enjoy the presentations. I liked these projects the best, because it was the first time I felt like a real teacher.

  21. I really liked the imovie assignment, even though I'm still not finished with it. It was really fun to film and I enjoyed working with my group, we had a lot of props with our film so we ended up filming around 20 min which is actually good because we can chose exactly which parts we want individually. My only regret was that I wasn't in class last wednesday so I missed the whole tutorial on how to make an imovie. I'm learning step by step though on how to edit and make this film my own. I also really liked the Inspiration project because I think it is an awesome and very educational software that was fun to work with.

  22. I liked the iMovie project the best. Editing and playing around with the footage in iMovie was really great fun. It's such an awesome piece of software. I'd worked with Excel and Powerpoint so much before that these assignments were something I just wanted to get out of the way.

  23. My favorite assignment was the Wiki our group did on Digital Storytelling. I expect to use both technologies when I teach. The semester was so limited time wise our group didn’t really have the give and take that the technology affords and we didn’t really feel sanctioned to edit one another’s work. It was gratifying to share our different skills and talents in accomplishing the project. Bailey was most facile with the Apple, navigating the editing properties of Wikispaces, and exploring ways to post YouTube. I learned from her. Tami quickly started writing after I had done internet research on the topic and I respected her diligence. Greg explored YouTube selections. I enjoyed and appreciated his sense of “cool”. I can imagine all three of my team mates being well respected teachers. I enjoy surfing and this was the only assignment that let me delve into the library catalog where I found ERIC resources. The Wiki and the social networking project allowed me to explore the internet where I found a number of web sites addressing Digital Storytelling and educational websites respectively.

  24. My favorite assignment was the movie making assignment. I had a lot of fun working with my group and producing the best movie ever. I am looking forward to using this tool in my classroom. I know the students will find the videos interesting just like I did. And who knows, maybe I will make a movie assignment myself.

  25. My favorite project in this class was the group movie project. I am usually not a fan of group work (as it is sometimes hard to get everyone together and evenly distribute the work), but this project was a blast! Our group had a lot of fun coming up with the story board and filming. I have never edited a video and I really enjoyed doing it. I must admit that there were times that I was frustrated because it was tedious work, but it also allowed me to use my creativity. I also enjoyed the Inspiration project and the PowerPoint project. I feel that these two tools can greatly assist in classroom instruction. They were also fun to put together.

  26. i really enjoyed the movie, but the most useful project for me was the inspiration. i had never been exposed to the notion of concept mapping and think it can be a useful tool in teaching science.

  27. My favorite assignment was making a video with I-Movie. For me, this project had a sense of reward well beyond that of the other assignments, which were also useful. The technology was fun to use, and I really enjoyed the many ways of adding creative input.
